NewsChannel 15 has learned a man wanted for scamming businesses in Darlington County is also wanted for similar crimes in Dillon County. Police say Stephen Claude Dunn is a con-artist who duped six stores out of hundreds of dollars in Dillon County.

They initially thought he was in Conway, but are pretty sure he isn't there now. A detective with Dillon Police Department says Dunn called him on Tuesday, saying he was trying to check into an out of state rehab center. The detective isn't releasing where that center's located.

Police say this surveillance picture shows Dunn at at the Tiger Mart on Radford Boulevard in Dillon.

Detectives say he walked into the store pretending to be a district manager from Wal-Mart, and told the clerk he was delivering a gift card for the store's owner and needs to be reimbursed.

Police say Dunn hit five other stores last week in the city limits of Dillon with the same scam. In each case, the clerk gave him money from the cash register for the gift card.

Charlotte Hardee runs Cappi's Cleaners and says Dunn knew her boss's name and told her he knew him very well. She says he was very persistent and persuasive.

"Very convincing. I mean I been in retail for the last 27 years and normally nobody couldn't even scam me like that. Everyone was just so surprised that he did that but he was just very convincing."

Hardee didn't think anything of it, until realizing the gift cards were blank and they had been scammed. Dunn faces several counts of fraud in Dillon and Darlington counties.

Police say Dunn has a long rap sheet listing crimes committed in Horry County.
