A storm blew through the Scotch Medals north community around 8:00AM Monday morning.
Monday morning, strong winds downed trees and damaged a few homes outside the Scotland County community of Laurinburg.
Emergency officials say a micro-burst, or straight line winds, hit the community which is just about a mile from the Marlboro County line.
Because of extent of the damage, emergency officials say they initially thought it was a tornado, but later determined it wasn't.
No one was hurt, but flying debris injured three horses, one of them seriously.
The storm blew through the Scotch Medals north community around 8:00AM Monday morning.
Damaging winds sliced trees, downed power lines and tore through tin fencing at two farms. Two horses and a pony were injured by debris. A veterinarian stitched up one horse after a tree limb cut through its side.
At one point, farm hands at Stanton Farms didn't think the horse would make it.
"There are animals that sustain these kind of injuries that do not survive, so the fact that he was still standing and alert says that has a chance and that he could make it," said Jennifer Bruner, Stanton Farms.
Dozens of animals at the farm, including nine other horses are okay, but farm hands say all of them will be placed in a temporary shelter at nearby Saint Andrews College, until the farm is cleaned up.
Emergency officials say the Scotch Medals North community received the most damage in the county, and they're working to get a dollar estimate.
