Two churches in our area took advantage of the National Day of prayer Thursday to serve people dinner and help a great cause.

One was at Belin United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet.

There was entertainment from Dino's TV Variety hour performers.

First Alert Meteorologist Darren Stack and NewsChannel 15's Tim McGinnis helped serve dinner.

All the money raised tonight goes to the Red Cross's Heroes Fund.

"Which is specially earmarked to provide operating expenses for the local chapter to meet our needs, we help military families as well as prior to the wildfires we had 535 people who had fires in their homes," said Nancy Conley, with the Coastal Chapter of the Red Cross.

The heroes fund has raised about $90,000 so far this year, their goal is $125,000.

At the other spaghetti dinner at Ocean Drive Presbyterian, in North Myrtle Beach, performers from the Alabama Theater provided entertainment.

"This is God and country, in support of the Red Cross. Incredible night, spaghetti, food, music, just a lot of fun and certainly like to thank everyone at WPDE for all their support, " said Greg Rowles, with the Alabama Theater.
