A few caring bystanders made an effort to rescue helpless babies and try to return them to their mother, Tuesday. Eight ducklings, believed to be about two weeks old, were trapped in a storm drain at the Harbourgate Resort in Little River.
A woman driving by heard their mom circling the drain and quacking loudly.
The woman stopped to take a look and found the little ones in trouble.
"I heard the noise. They were making a lot of noise, so I stopped and got some help," said Dana Bradley, who rescued the ducklings.
Bradley and a North Myrtle Beach police officer got a swimming pool net and spent a couple of hours pulling the babies out of the drain.
By that time, the mommy duck was nowhere to be seen, but DNR took the ducklings away to reunite them with their mother if she can be found, or keep them until they're old enough to survive on their own.
