Wednesday, police officers in Florence County practiced how they would handle a shooting at a school.
The practice drill took place at North Vista Elementary School.
Two weeks ago, officers used their skills in a real life situation when they locked down two Florence schools, following a high speed chase.
The suspect ran behind one of the schools.
District officials say their goal is to stay ahead of the threat.
"Parents are entrusting us to make sure that the students have a safe haven in which to attend school, and obviously it's our responsibility to ensure that," said Lionel Brown with Florence School District One.
About 50 officers from all over the county took part in the drill.
School officials say Florence Police Chief Anson Shells headed up the exercise.
