Tuesday, spots in the Pee Dee saw localized flooding, and insurance experts say now's the time to be thinking about flood insurance.

It takes 30 days for a flood policy to take effect.

If you want to make sure you're covered before hurricane season starts June 1st, experts say now's the time to get a policy.

A spokesperson for the insurance news service says this wet spring should be a reminder of the importance of flood insurance.

"Flooding can happen anytime. It doesn't necessarily have to be during hurricane season and it can take place anywhere in the state of South Carolina, it doesn't necessarily have to be right along the beach or the coastal area either.", said Allison Dean Love, SC Insurance News Service.

Dean Love says many homeowners believe their home is already covered for flooding, but it's usually a separate policy under the national flood insurance program.
