Grand Strand business leaders are pushing Governor Mark Sanford to approve a one-cent sales tax increase.
They kicked off their lobbying campaign at a news conference Friday.
The House and Senate have passed a bill that would allow Horry County towns to add a penny to the local sales tax to pay for tourism marketing.
One supporter says other tourist destinations have even higher sales taxes that raise millions of dollars to pay for their marketing campaigns.
"This does not put us above anyone else, competitors, we're about middle of the road as far as sales taxes goes to tourists, so it doesn't put us at risk," said Woody Crosby, CEO, Jordan Properties.
A spokesman for the governor says Sanford has not reviewed the sales tax bill.
He has until Tuesday to take action on it, and it will likely be next week before the governor decides.
