A bill that would allow Horry County towns to add a penny to their local sales tax is one step away from the governor.
The South Carolina House Wednesday passed the bill on second reading that would allow local cities to raise money for tourism promotion.
The bill requires a two-thirds majority of a city council to pass the tax or a majority of voters in a referendum.
After the third year of the tax, the proceeds could be used for property tax reduction or capital projects related to tourism.
