24-year-old Dustin Johnson
(Updated: 11:00pm, Tuesday)
Former Coastal Carolina All-American and PGA Tour member Dustin Johnson was charged with driving under the influence on Monday morning.
Johnson was booked at 11:28 am at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway and was released on a personal recognizance bond at 11:50 am.
The 24 year old is in his second season on the PGA Tour and already has two wins, most recently the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.
"I have been charged with driving under the influence in the state of South Carolina," said Johnson, in a statement released by the PGA Tour.
"I made an error in judgment that I deeply regret. I have let myself down and others who support me. I am handling the matter privately and rest assured I will definitely learn from my mistake."
Johnson is slated to tee off this 1:50 pm EST Thursday at the Shell Houston Open and then make his first appearance at Augusta National and the Masters the following week.
Johnson is currently 9th in the FedEx Cup points standings and has already made just under $1.6 million in 2009.
