The Grand Strand Humane Society is scheduled to re-open Thursday. Officials closed it last week following an illness that made two puppies sick.
The puppies were quarantined as soon as they became sick, and the shelter is not taking animals from the public until it re-opens.
Shelter officials think the illness may be hereditary, because the puppies are from the same litter.
Test results could be available Wednesday.
Last week, the Horry County Humane Society's animal shelter closed because of a confirmed distemper case there. It has since reopened.
