New Myrtle Beach laws pertaining to bikers take effect Saturday, including the ordinance requiring bikers and moped drivers to wear helmets.

Monday, city crews posted "helmet required" signs at the city limits. The signs are covered for now, but will be unveiled Saturday when the helmet law starts.

The new law is part of a string of ordinances passed by Myrtle Beach City Council in an effort to get rid of bike rallies.

But at the same time Myrtle Beach is discouraging bike rallies, North Myrtle Beach is sending the message everyone is welcome.

The reason? Confusion.

As news of "anti-biker" laws spread, visitors don't know who's welcome and where they can go.

"People who have been coming here for years, and are part of our visitor database, have contacted us and said we understand that you all have passed new ordinances and we are no longer welcome there," said Marc Jordan with the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.

So the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is trying to get the message out there, come one come all... as long as they obey North Myrtle Beach's laws.

Myrtle Beach says the new helmet law is to combat all the accidents and deaths that happen during rallies. The city spokesperson says although bike rallies are not welcome, bikers are.

And while you have to wear a helmet in Myrtle Beach, you can still ride without one in North Myrtle Beach.

"Come here. You can go anywhere you want to, but you're going to be welcome here as long as you obey the laws that we have," said Jordan.

Other ordinances effective in Myrtle Beach this Saturday include no serving alcohol after 2:00am, no alcohol consumption in parking lots, and no more than two motorcycles per parking space.

Here's where the signs are located.

Socastee Boulevard (near the "Back Gate")

Frontage Road, near Coalition Drive (near the "Back Gate")

US 17, near Temperance Drive (southern city limits on US 17)

Kings Highway, near Dogwood Drive (southern city limits on Kings Highway)

Harrelson Boulevard (just east of the Fantasy Harbour ridge)

US 501, near Rhoda Loop (east of the Intracoastal Waterway bridge)

Grissom Parkway at SC 31

US 17, near Cove Drive (northern city limits, south of Restaurant Row)
