Firefighters battled the wind and flames as a barn fire burned out of control and spread to a nearby field.

The call went out around 11am Tuesday on Hull Island Road in the northeastern part of Horry County.

The owner tells us the barn was a 2-story building under renovations to be used as apartments.

The barn burned to the ground, and the wind fanned the flames across a dirt road to a nearby field.

Horry County fire spokesman, Todd Cartner says Loris firefighters were first to arrive on scene, and they managed to get the fire contained so it didn't spread any further.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
