A group of motorcyclists and business owners met Sunday afternoon to let it be known they will ask Horry County Council to postpone final reading on two ordinances aimed at limiting the May bike rallies.
The group gathered at Hoof-N-Finz, a Murrells Inlet, biker-friendly restaurant.
Organizers of the meeting, including Hoof-N-Finz owner Curtis Thornton, said 400 signatures of business owners had been gathered.
They say there's not enough time before May for the county to pass and implement two ordinances. Plus, they say the economic situation should be incentive enough for everyone to encourage the bikers. According to them, the bikers will pump much-needed money into the local economy.
"The economy is down. Everybody is hurting from the economy. Give us time to fix the rally, the noise, the congestion - but let's put it off and save it until after May's rally until we have time to fix it. There's no time to fix the rally," Thornton said.
The two ordinances council will take up Tuesday concern vendor permits and the permitting process. There is an effort to limit the number and locations of where vendors could set up. The second effort is to change how people are granted special event permits for things like concerts and burnout pits.
Council said the special event permits ordinance doesn't target just bikers, but anyone applying for a permit.
