US Marshals assist in home invasion arrests
Tuesday, US Marshals rounded up another fugitive in the Pee Dee in connection with several home invasions and robberies in Darlington County.
US Marshals are involved through their fugitive task force, which allows local police to ask them for help.
Deputies in Darlington County say their collaboration with the US Marshals has hopefully put an end to a violent crime spree near Hartsville.
Deputies called in US Marshals following two violent home invasions last month.
The first happened in the Centerville community, where police say Michael Squires and Dontavious Jackson invaded a home.
Deputies say the next day, Joshua Daye and Sherwin Carter retaliated and broke into Squires' home on Robinhood Drive in Hartsville.
Officers say Squires and Daye shot at each other, both went to the hospital, and both were arrested when they got out.
Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd has an officer assigned to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
He wanted them to track down Carter and Jackson because of the Marshals' resources and his lack of manpower.
"They were able to come in and dedicate manpower to tracking these guys down. Manpower honestly, that we couldn't commit 24 hours to tracking them down," said Sheriff Byrd.
Within days, the Marshals got Carter, and just this week they say they found Jackson hiding out in Hartsville.
Sheriff Byrd says teamwork has paid off and made the community a lot safer with all four suspects off the streets.
"They were major players in that a lot of the things that have been going on in that area, and we're still trying to investigate exactly what they're all involved."
Tuesday morning, US Marshals also arrested Brian Willis Jackson for an armed robbery in the Alphabet Hills community of Hartsville.
Police are investigating to see if he's connected to any of the other suspects.
Sheriff Byrd says they're also investigating to see if the men are affiliated with any gangs in Darlington County.
