Georgetown County emergency personnel are at South Island Ferry Drive after a car drove through the ferry gates and into the Intracoastal Waterway just before 6:00 p.m. Monday.

Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Neil Johnson said at 9:15 p.m. Monday that crews were preparing to pull the vehicle from the waterway.

Johnson did not know whether anyone was inside.

South Island is about 15 miles south of Georgetown and is only accessible by water.
