The former Atlantic Beach police chief will be in charge for at least another month.
Monday night, the town voted Randy Rizzo the interim police department leader for 30 days.
He was suspended in September because of an allegation of improper conduct. The town said he used his take-home patrol car for personal use.
Rizzo denied the allegation, saying it was a ploy to rid the town of its police force to save money.
Council member Charlene Taylor says the town is still looking for a permanent police chief and hopes to have one in place in 30 days, however, she admits the town still doesn't have the funds to pay someone as chief.
