The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a car crash on Highway 501 led to the highway being shut down and three people going to the hospital. It happened before 9 p.m. Friday in front of the Tanger Outlet Mall.

Highway Patrol tells NewsChannel 15 that a car was going toward Conway, but crashed and ended up in the beach bound lanes before flipping over into a ditch.

At least one person was taken by helicopter to the hospital and two others by ambulance.

"The car was going extremely fast, it was skidding all across the road, then faced ongoing traffic, thank God the traffic light slowed traffic down, I would say five seconds and he would have gone into the traffic. But unfortunately, he hit the guardrail and then flipped in the ditched," said Tabitha Steele, an eye witness.

Highway Patrol is still investigating this crash.
