Local families that have lost their homes to fire this year will enjoy free turkey dinners this Christmas.

Friday, employees at AVX in Myrtle Beach donated 100 frozen turkeys to the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the Red Cross.

The turkey giveaway started ten years ago, when an AVX employee noticed that some folks he worked with didn't use the turkey they received every year from the company, so he contacted the Red Cross.

"The company is good enough to give us these turkeys each year, even in good and bad times, and the employees just feel like they can send that generosity on to those who are less fortunate," said Jack Gaddy, an AVX employee.

The Red Cross will combine the turkeys with donated toys and canned goods, to distribute to families who have lost their homes to fires and natural disasters.
