The state's leading public safety advocates were in Myrtle Beach Tuesday to talk about ways to prevent drug abuse in South Carolina.
It's part of the South Carolina Drugs of Abuse Conference taking place until Thursday at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Myrtle Beach.
State and local law enforcement, elected officials, educators, criminal justice workers and health professionals attended the event.
Organizers hope the conference will help educate people on the effects of drugs, and how drug use is connected to other crime in the state.
"Drugs affect not just the user, but affect all of us and this brings together this multi-disciplinary group of folks to help educate them not only about the problem but about what they can do as part of the solution," said Gene McCaskill with the State Attorney General's Office
Attorney General Henry McMaster addressed the crowd Tuesday.
The conference is in its fifth year.
