X-treme Surf and Skateboard Company's sales were actually up this year.
Local merchants breathed a sigh of relief after months of being in the red, thanks to Black Friday and the holiday weekend.
NewsChannel 15 talked with some business owners in the Pee Dee and on the Grand Strand, who, before the weekend were all worried sales would be down from previous years, but they were pleasantly surprised.
Jonathan Vereen owns the X-treme Surf and Skateboard Company in the new Market Commons shopping center in Myrtle Beach.
Since his store is so specialized, he was worried that this year customers would concentrate on more necessary puchases.
But, he said his sales were actually up this year from last year's.
And, even though stocks have crashed and jobs have been lost, he says it's a buyer's world right now.
"We've put just about everything on sale just to entice people this time of year with the economy being so bad every little bit helps."
He attributed this year's success to being in such a new shopping center, and said all the activities that are held there really help to bring in his customers.
Vereen said his Black Friday business was up 10 to 15 percent from last year, which, he said, isn't a huge jump, but every little bit helps.
