The Democratic candidates for the newly formed 7th Congressional District met in a debate Tuesday night at Myrtle Beach High School.

The Democratic candidates participating in the debate were Preston Brittain, Parnell Diggs, Harry Pavilack, and Gloria Bromell Tinubu. You can watch the debate here.

Each candidate stated why they believed they were the best pick for office.

"I'm the new generation for leadership," Brittain said.

Tinubu said, "I believe I am the most qualified. I have 34 years experience as an economist and businesswoman."

Pavilack said, "I am talking to the people in Bennettesville and Cheraw. I know they need jobs, and I can get the job done."

Diggs stated, "I still believe in putting people first. I am an example of what can happen when you put people first."

Another highlight during the debate, the candidates were asked how much money they have raised so far.

Diggs said he has raised roughly $30,000. Brittain and Tinubu have raised the most with Brittain raising $530,000 and Tinubu saying $200,000 to $250,000. She added $200,000 was her own money.

"I've raised maybe $350. That's it," Pavilack said.
