Horry County police charged eight Socastee High School students for smoking synthetic marijuana on school property.

On February 15, the School Resource Officer at Socastee High School was alerted to students having some type of reaction from ingesting synthetic marijuana.

The officer found the students, along with the product they were ingesting. Some of the students that ingested the product required medical treatment. The product was sent off to the State Law Enforcement Division to be tested for banned chemicals.

On February 20, the School Resource Officer was again alerted to a student having a reaction based on the same factors. The officer again found all students involved, along with the product that was being smoked.

Any students found to be having a reaction were once again given medical treatment. As in the first incident, the product recovered was sent to SLED to be tested.

The School Resource Officer along with Detectives with the Horry County Police Department's Narcotics and Vice Section continued to investigate the incidents.

Grant Hollister Kolumba, 17, Joshua Palmer Vaught, 17, both of Myrtle Beach, and a 16-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were charged with Public Disorderly Conduct.

Cassie Leeana South, 17,Christopher Robert Kripple, 17, both of Myrtle Beach, and a 16-year-old boy were charged with Disturbing Schools.

Nathan Wesley Rose, 18, of Myrtle Beach was charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
