Marquis McDonald, 20, of Conway made his first appearance in front of a judge Sunday morning since being arrested on Friday for the murder of Coastal Carolina University student Anthony Liddell.

During the arraignment, McDonald was denied bond for the charges of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. A magistrate judge cannot set bond for those charges.

He will face a circuit court judge for another bond hearing on April 26 at 1 p.m.

Liddell was shot at University Place, the campus apartments, on Tuesday night.  He later died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

McDonald was arrested Friday afternoon after turning himself in to police.

During the arraignment McDonald told Judge Butler, "This is one of my best friends that got killed, and he saved my life, and if it weren't for him he'd be in here, and I'd be dead."

McDonald told Judge Butler that he would be hiring his own attorney.
