Horry County is celebrating Martin Luther King Junior's life and legacy this weekend with the Freedom Rally.

Events kicked off Saturday with several workshops focused on jobs for the African American community.

Brad Lofton with the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation brought some of South Carolina's largest contractors to try to recruit minority subcontractors.

"I mean we're trying to create jobs as our first and primary mission, but if we can play a role in increasing the minority subcontractor base, I think that'll also help diversify the economy," said Lofton.

The Carolina African American Heritage Foundation also brought in Sharnell Ladson of a group called HUSTLE. Ladson helped attendees learn what their strengths and talents are use them to create money for themselves.

"Digging into yourself and finding out what your talents are, what services can you render. Can you clean somebody's lawn? Can you do someone's hair? What are you good at? Can you make something and sell?" said Ladson.

Also on Saturday, the Freedom Rally included Carolina Has Talent. A talent show competition that had cash prizes of $3,000.

Civil Rights Sunday will take place tomorrow evening from 5pm to 7pm at the Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church on Carver Street.

On Monday they will hold a Community Awards Breakfast from 8am to 11am at the Myrtle Beach Canal Street Recreation Center. Tickets to this event must be purchased in advance.

The rally will finish with a parade from 11:30 am to 2 pm. It will begin at 9th avenue in Myrtle Beach.
