A powerful spring-like storm system has much of the Tennessee Valley in a high risk for long-lived violent tornadoes through Friday evening.

There have already been reports of tornadoes doing significant damage in parts of Alabama and Tennessee.

That storm system is heading into the Carolinas late Friday night and Saturday, but in a much weaker state. Showers and strong thunderstorms will become likely in our area from midday and through the afternoon. The primary threat from any storms that become severe will be damaging straight-line winds.

Remember, if you are away from your TV, you can get updates through WeatherCall, TextAlert, Facebook, and Twitter.

The WPDE NewsChannel 15 First Alert Weather Team will be tracking the storms throughout the day so keep in touch.
