NewsChannel 15 has learned a former candidate for SC House Seat District 53 who filed a protest of the November 6 election is asking the SC Supreme Court to intervene.

Richard Yow filed a protest saying there were irregularities and problems in the District 53 race.

Yow ran on the Republican ticket. He lost to Democratic candidate and incumbent Ted Vick.

Attorneys for Yow filed an injunctive relief petition Wednesday asking the SC Supreme Court to issue an order to allow the Chesterfield County Election Commission and its director Lois Burr to provide Yow immediate access to public records relating to the election. Yow says the matter is of urgency as the SC Election Commission will hear his protest next Tuesday.

The petition says he's tried to review the records, but has repeatedly been denied access by Burr and the Chesterfield County Election Commission.

Yow wants to look over absentee ballot applications from the election. His attorneys have also asked the SC Supreme Court to stay Yow's hearing before the SC Election Commission until necessary documents can be reviewed.
