Conway police, Horry County police, and the Horry County Sheriff's Office partnered for the first ever gun buy back held in Conway Saturday.

People could drop off their guns in exchange for $50 to $200 dollars gift cards. Officials did not ask any questions about the firearms.

"Gun crime is running rampant all over the United States and if we can get one gun off the street and save one life. That is one life saved and we think that's very important," Catina Hipp with the Conway police department said.

More than 120 guns were collected within one hour into the buy back. South Carolina ranks 14th in number of gun deaths per person. Police say they hope this buy back will be a yearly thing. The also hope buy backs can bring down that statistic.

Police also handed out free gun locks.
