Tuesday, a special election was held for Florence County Council Seat 1 to fill an unexpired term.

Jason Springs was unopposed on the ballot. He received 323 votes. There was one vote for a write-in candidate.

Springs won the Democratic primary for the seat, and no Republicans filed to run.

By state law, the polls must open for this unopposed race to allow for potential write-in candidates.

This is for Florence County Council Seat One to fill an unexpired term ending in 2014. That seat was left open when Rusty Smith became Florence County Administrator in November.
