11 precincts in lower Florence County opened Tuesday for the special election to fill a seat on Florence County Council.

Jason Springs is the only name on the ballot. He won the Democratic primary for the seat, and no Republicans filed to run.

By state law, the polls must open for this unopposed race to allow for potential write-in candidates.

This is for Florence County Council Seat One to fill an unexpired term ending in 2014. That seat was left open when Rusty Smith became Florence County Administrator in November.

Polls will be open until 7 p.m. For more on the election, including a list of precincts open, click here.
