Myrtle Beach police arrested Cletis Edward Baker, 37, around 4:30 Friday morning.
The Camden man is facing an Attempted Murder charge.
Baker was arrested after police responded to an assault, that happened Thursday night, off North Ocean Boulevard at Cabana Shores.
The 43-year-old victim said she was assaulted by Baker and the incident was confirmed by a witness, according to responding officers.
Baker "tried to choke her and smother her with a pillow," according to David Knipes with Myrtle Beach police.
He also said the woman is Baker's girlfriend.
