A Robeson County man who was severely beaten after deputies say he killed two women is now off life support.

Joseph Matteson, 31, is conscious, but not alert, according to Captain Anthony Thompson with Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

Matteson is expected to be charged with two counts of murder and other charges when he's released from the hospital.

Thompson says Matteson shot and killed his own mother, Donna Matteson, as well as Kathy Bullard at a home near Red Springs last month.

Thompson says Matteson also shot Mark Bullard at the home, but that Bullard then severely beat Matteson.
