NEW BERN, N.C. (AP) -- Four North Carolina men are facing various sentences for their roles in an organized dog fighting ring in Robeson County.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker said the men were sentenced in federal court in New Bern.

Two of the men, 40-year-old Jimmy Jacobs of Maxton and 69-year-old Frank Jacobs of Laurinburg were sentenced to two years, five months in prison and three years of supervised release. Authorities also sentenced 35-year-old Tony Harris of Lamar, S.C., to one year, 11 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

The men were indicted in July by federal officials who said they trained and bred pit bulls for the fights. Prosecutors said they also took bets and charged admission to spectators.

The sentences were handed down Wednesday.
