Georgetown County sheriff's deputies have charged a second person in connection with a fire at the Toni Pennington Law Firm on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island.
Wednesday, they charged Ronnie Gene Ackley, Jr. 41, with 2nd Degree Burglary and Arson.
Ackley's charges stem from supporting evidence showing him as being an accomplice to the crime, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Last week, deputies charged Matthew Donald Kelly, 40, with Burglary 2nd Degree and Arson in connection with the fire.
Kelly owns Lumpy's Bar & Grill, which is next door to the building containing both the Toni Pennington Law Firm and the Islander Bar & Grill.
The Midway Fire Department had responded to the fire January 13 and found the front door to the law firm open, as well as other evidence supporting arson, according to the sheriff's office.Deputies were called because firefighters deemed it suspicious.
The fire was isolated to the law office part of the building.
Kelly is responsible for setting the fire, according to the sheriff's office.
Kelly was already in custody on an unrelated charge when he was arrested, as was Ackley.
