Marcus Burgess has set up a scholarship fund for his three small children in memory of his wife, Sonya Burgess, 39.

She died in a crash on Highway 52 in the Cades community of Williamsburg County Monday night.

Burgess coached the Kingstree High School girls basketball team.

The scholarship is called "Sonya T. Burgess Three Musketeers Fund" and is set up at First Citizens Bank.

Troopers say Burgess was trying to avoid hitting a car traveling the wrong way in her lane, when she flipped her suv, was thrown from it, and then hit by another car.

Neither driver stopped, but troopers have located both of them.

According to the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office, the woman driving the car that ran over Burgess says she knew she hit something that night but didn't know what she hit.

She came forward the next day but hasn't been charged.

Her name isn't being released.

Troopers say Daveline Holmes, 37, of Georgetown County was driving the car heading the wrong way out of the gas station.

They charged her with Reckless Homicide Resulting in Death and Hit and Run Involving Death.

The investigation is ongoing, and troopers are continuing to gather evidence.

She remains in the Williamsburg County Detention Center on a $115,000 bond.

Burgess' funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium at Kingstree Senior High School.

School district officials say they expect more than 1,000 people to attend.
