Firehouse Subs presented the Aynor Police Department with a new K-9 officer Wednesday at its restaurant in Myrtle Beach.

The sandwich shop is also providing training for the dog, and $15,000 toward the purchase of an emergency vehicle.

The dog will be used for narcotics, explosives detection, and prevention programs.

"If we can do anything to encourage or discourage someone from staying involved with drugs, then it will be a success," said Chief David Thompson with the Aynor police department.

The dog named Daisy is the departments first K-9 officer.

Firehouse subs has given $5.7 million dollars to public safety groups in 36 states and Puerto Rico.
