UPDATE WEST BOUND LANES NOW OPEN

Highway 22 East was shut down at Highway 319, near Aynor, Tuesday morning because of a crash, according to Horry County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Justin Gibbins.

The crash happened near Highway 701 about 9 a.m.

A tractor trailer was traveling east on Highway 22 when the other vehicle got on the highway the wrong way and they collided, according to Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, Lance Corporal Collins said.

It was extremely foggy at that time, so Highway Patrol will investigate to see if that was a factor in the driver traveling the wrong way.

The west bound lanes of Highway 22 have been reopened.
