Police up death toll to 245 in Brazil club fire

BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) - Police in the city of Santa Maria in southern Brazil now say at least 245 have died in a nightclub fire. At least 200 more were injured.

Police Maj. Cleberson Braida says that's the total of dead at the club. He says the bodies have been brought to a gymnasium in the city of Santa Maria.

A local newspaper reports the club has a capacity of between 1,000-2,000 people. The cause of the fire isn't known.

Santa Maria is university town located at the southern tip of Brazil near the borders with Argentina and Uruguay. It has a population of around a quarter of a million.
