South Carolina Senator Lee Bright is proposing a bill that would teach the state's high schoolers how to use guns.

Bright calls it the South Carolina Gun Safety Program.

It would be an elective course where students would learn how to use guns safely.

The class would also teach the history of the second amendment.

"I think this fear of guns is something that we have to address as a society .....because it's not the guns that create the problem," Bright said.

The bill will give school districts the option to create the courses, which would be held off campus at a shooting range.

Bright added that he got the idea from the days when students could join a rifle team or learn about shooting during a school day.
