Hartsville has to close the Prestwood Lake boat ramp and fishing dock for six months starting January 30.

The company Sonoco, is widening and repairing Sonovista Drive, which ends at the boat ramp.

The company also plans to improve the lakefront, paving the parking lot and repairing the boat ramp and dock.

Public waterfront access for fishing, canoeing and kayaking will be available at Hartsville's Lawton Park, at 716 Prestwood Drive, but the park has no launch site for larger boats.

The Prestwood Lake boat is expected to open August 31.
