Florence City Councilman Ed Robinson has organized the annual Martin Luther King Junior march for 14 years.

This year, he says he's changing it because he wants his MLK celebration to the one of the best in the state.

He thought of the idea to extend it to two days after more than 700 people participated in last year's march and rally.

Robinson will hold a musical celebration at the Francis Marion Performing Arts Center January 20 featuring local groups Derrick Bull and Remnant, Jarvis Jett, Team Freedom, Arthenius Jackson, Francis Marion YGB Choir, LeTeka Harrell, Semeka Green and Justin Roberts Dance Company.

Monday, the march will start at 11 a.m. on Coit Street and cross the MLK Bridge.

"We're going to have a real good uplifting King celebration this year, and it's gonna be quite a difference from last year," said Robinson.

After the march, Gloria Tinubu, former candidate for the 7th Congressional District, will speak at a King Day Rally at the Performing Arts Center.
