The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident on I-20 that killed Christien James McKinney, 19, of Florence Monday night.

A South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper clocked a car traveling more than 106 miles per hour.

When he turned around to pull it over, he couldn't find the car, but did see plumes of smoke, according to Captain Andy Locklair with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

Locklair says the trooper later found the car wrecked under the overpass at I-20 and Highway 340 about 8:30 p.m.

McKinney was flown to McLeod Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
