The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office arrested a man and a woman who they say were trying to steal metal around 2:30 Friday afternoon.

According to deputies, James Matthew Chavis, 31, of Georgetown, and Charlene Denise Ard, 25 of Andrews, are facing several charges after a caretaker of Andrews Wire in Andrews reported a suspicious noise inside the building.

Deputies responded and while clearing the building they say they found Chavis hiding, they say Ard was attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle pulling a trailer, but the exit was blocked.

Chavis and Ard are being charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, Possessing Burglary Tools, and possible additional charges are pending. Chavis and Ard are being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
