Florence School District One board member Pat Gibson Hye-Moore says there has never been an evaluation on the performance of Dr. Allie Brooks as superintendent of the district.

He's been the district's leader for nearly three years.

The board was set to hold a formal evaluation on Brooks two years ago, but Moore says it never happened.

At the time, he was interim superintendent and she says they decided to give him the $140,000 job permanently without an evaluation.

Moore says that wasn't wise because all other district employees are evaluated annually.

"We are not being fair to the public. We're not being transparent to the public when we do things of that nature. Especially if it's our policy and it's a part of our policy," explained Moore.

Brooks' evaluation is up for discussion at Thursday night's school board meeting.

Moore says she has no gripes with Brooks' performance, but she just wants to be fair.

The school board adopted its policy in 2000 to evaluate the superintendent every year.

Brooks' contract ends next june.
