Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes is "doing well" following surgery, according to City of Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea.

Mayor Rhodes was hospitalized Thursday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after an episode with high blood pressure.

Rhodes was then admitted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston Friday evening for additional tests.

Saturday morning, doctors repaired an aneurism through catheterization. We were first told Rhodes underwent an angioplasty to remove a blood clot from his brain. That information was incorrect.

The surgery was successful. Rhodes is still recovering in Charleston and plans to be back home in Myrtle Beach by Tuesday.

Rhodes was elected Mayor in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.
