An 8-year-old child has been killed in Bennettsville. Police were called on reports of the child being shot accidentally by a family member.

On Sunday night around 8:30, Bennettsville police officers responded to the 911 call on Fayetteville Avenue.

Easton Brueger of Clio was taken to Marlboro Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said the shooting took place at Brueger's father's home.

The shooting is still under investigation by the Bennettsville Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Coroner Brown says autopsy results will take a few more days, but the boy suffered a gun shot wound to his stomach.
