UPDATE

The former treasurer of the Greenwood Elementary Association of Parents and Teachers (APT) is under arrest, accused of taking $20,800.40 for purposes not relating to the business of the organization.

The school is in Florence School District One.

Sharon G. Kirby, 42, is charged with Breach of Trust after turning herself in Monday morning.

Kirby was treasurer of the organization for a period of time between 2008 and 2012.

When the APT was making changes to their bank account to add a new treasurer, they noticed money missing, said Carlos Raines with the Florence Police Department.

Raines said they received the complaint on November 30 and through their investigation, learned Kirby wrote checks and made withdrawals for items not related to APT events.

He said Kirby was no longer the treasurer, but still had access to the account.

Parents of Greenwood Elementary School students received a letter Friday, notifying them that an audit of the APT revealed there was a misappropriation of funds.

Kirby has been released from jail on a $10,000 bond.

Florence police arrested Kirby on November 28 for shoplifting.

A Belk loss prevention officer saw Kirby go into a dressing room with several boxes of underwear, but he didn't see the boxers when she came out, according to Raines.

He approached Kirby and found the boxers in her purse, Raines stated.

He says an incident report indicated the $164 in underwear was returned and Kirby was arrested.

Raines says Kirby told officers she wanted to give the boxers out as Christmas gifts.
