Laurinburg police charged Lucio Vazquez Valdez, 53, with Murder for severely beating his girlfriend, who later died as a result of her injuries suffered in the assault.
On September 4, officers were called to an assault at 207 McRae Street in Laurinburg. Officers say Judith Patel, 63, was inside the home and had been severely beaten.
Valdez was her boyfriend, according to police.
She was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital, and then flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, because of the severity of her injuries.
Patel died on October 6 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Valdez has been in the Scotland County Jail since September 4.
