TRAVLERS REST, S.C. (AP) -- Police say a Travelers Rest man killed his wife, then took their son to daycare the next day before returning home to kill himself.

Police say they went to the home after a 4-year-old child was not picked up from day care. Capt. John Gardner said the bodies were found about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill identified the victims as 47-year-old Dale Patrick Wetzelberger and his 41-year-old wife, Michele.

Authorities say Dale Wetzelberger killed his wife at their home on Monday night. They say he took their son to daycare the next day, then returned home and killed himself.

Investigators say Michele Wetzelberger was shot more than once. Her husband had one gunshot wound.

Their child is in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
