The north end of the Grand Strand has a new state senator, but now the 15th Circuit will have to find a new head prosecutor.

Solicitor Greg Hembree was elected to the District 28 senate seat that had been held by Dick Elliott, who is retiring.

Hembree's last day as solicitor will be December 14.

Governor Nikki Haley will appoint a replacement solicitor, to be ratified by the senate, filling out the remaining two years of the term.

Hembree says he hopes Deputy Solicitor Jimmy Richardson will get the job.

As for Hembree, he added that he's been asked to join several law firms, but for right now, he plans to be a full-time senator.
