(AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley is meeting with reporters to provide an update on the investigation into the hacking of 3.6 million South Carolina tax returns.

Haley and State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel held a news conference in Columbia Monday morning.

"You do not have to call today, you have until January of 2013 to call," Governor Nikki Haley said in reference to calling about possibly being a victim in the massive hack.

Haley added that every single person, minors included, will be protected.

"We've got all the holes plugged," Haley said.

Officials are still not clear on exactly whose identities have been compromised.

"It is a very sensitive ongoing investigation. We obviously want to bring someone to justice," Keel stated.

They announced Friday that a hacker with an international IP address hacked into state Department of Revenue files containing tax records submitted since 1998.

Officials have said people whose information has been compromised will get a free year of identity protection service provided by Experian and paid for by the state.

Keel said state officials learned of the problem Oct. 10, although the hacker may have gotten into the files as early as August.

If you visit www.protectmyid.com/scdor and enter the code SCDOR123 in the "activation box", you can sign up for the service for free.

Former and current South Carolina residents are permitted to use this code. If you were not affected or found ineligible, you can continue the service at your own expense or the account will be terminated.
